EXHUMATION CARRIED OUT IN SAPNA MUNICIPALITY
11.04.2017. 14:28The activities in the field were directly supervised and the exhumation process was coordinated by an Investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes at the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, upon the order of the Prosecutor in charge of the respective case.
The found mortal remains were transported to the Commemorative Centre in Tuzla, where further forensic and crime investigation processing will be done and bone samples will be taken for the DNA analysis.
According to the currently available information, the mortal remains are most likely belonging to a local person of Serb ethnicity.
The exhumation process was conducted with the participation of the representatives of the ICMP and the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, as well as an expert forensic pathologist and police officers of the Police Station in Sapna, and necessary workers and adequate mechanization of the Commemorative Centre in Tuzla were employed.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with all law enforcement agencies and institutions involved in the process of tracing missing persons, continues with its activities aimed at finding and exhuming victims of the 1992-1995 war, in all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
