EXHUMATION CARRIED OUT AT THE SITE OF ZLATIŠTE ON TREBEVIĆ PURSUANT TO ORDER OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH
30.03.2017. 14:58An exhumation is being carried out at the site of Zlatište, on Trebevic pursuant to the order of the Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes. Investigator of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is coordinating the activities at the exhumation site.
The nearly complete remains of two persons were found during the search that has taken place in the previous two days.
Activities were initiated on the basis of an anonymous tip and information that the aforementioned location could contain the remains of victims of the past war.
The recovered remains shall be taken for further forensic processing and DNA analysis aiming to determine the identity of the victim.
The remains were found close to the surface and since it is a larger site, the search for the remains will continue.
The exhumation process and the work of authorized officials are coordinated by an investigator of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH. Other persons present at the exhumation site are representatives of ICMP, the Missing Persons Institute, physician-forensic specialist and police officers of the RS MoI from East Novo Sarajevo who are securing the scene.
Employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH are participating, almost on daily basis, in the search for remains and exhumations of war crimes victims throughout BiH.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
