BY ORDER OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH 8 WAR CRIMES SUSPECTS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY IN PRIJEDOR
07.12.2016. 15:43Acting on the orders of the Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes, early this morning in the area of Prijedor, SIPA officers arrested the following suspects:
- Slobodan Taranjac, born in 1956 in Prijedor,
- Miodrag Glušac, born in 1960 in Prijedor,
- Ranko Babić, born in 1952 in Prijedor,
- Marinko Praštalo, born in 1963 in Prijedor,
- Ranko Došenović born in 1960 in Sanski Most,
- Zdravko Panić, born in 1959 in Prijedor,
- Trivo Vukić, born in 1966 in Prijedor,
- Milan Vukić, born in 1951 in Prijedor.
Several locations used by the suspects are also being searched.
These suspects are under investigation and are charged with having, during a widespread and systematic attack by the army, police and paramilitary formations directed against the Bosniak and Croat civilian population in Prijedor and the surrounding area, committed the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172 of the CC BiH.
They are charged with having, in their capacity as a members of the Crisis Staff of the Army and Police in late July 1992, participated in the unlawful detention of about 120 men, among whom were 15 minors in the area of Miska Glava, who were then taken to the cultural center and detained, as well as to the nearby stadium where they were tortured and abused for three days.
During the detention, some 10 to 15 prisoners were separated and killed, while the rest were taken to the location of Ljubija where they were killed by firearms.
Only a few managed to survive the shooting and their testimonies were crucial to shed some light on this crime.
After the war, the victims that were killed were found and exhumed from mass graves at the site of Redak I and Redak II, 10 bodies were found at the site Hozić Kamen in 2016.
SIPA officers shall, following the arrest, hand the suspects over to the Prosecutor who will question them and then make a decision on a motion for custody or prohibiting measures in accordance with the law.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
