INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST SIX PERSONS FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED IN THE AREA OF SKELANI

Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against the following persons:
  • INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST SIX PERSONS FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED IN THE AREA OF SKELANI

- Blagomir Jovanović aka “Mićo“, born in 1959 in Srebrenica,

- Milenko Čanić aka „Čano“, born in 1947 in Srebrenica,

- Stevan Lukić aka „Stevo“, born in 1947 in Srebrenica,

- Dragojlo Filipović aka „Đido“, born in 1949 in Srebrenica,

- Radomir Katanić aka „Rašo“, born in 1948 in Srebrenica, and

- Slavko Milovanović, born in 1950 in Srebrenica.

These accused persons are charged with participating, as officials of the Crisis Staff of the Serb Municipality of Skelani, from April to August of 1992, in a widespread and systematic attack of military, police and paramilitary forces, for the purpose of killing, forcibly transferring and persecuting Bosniak and Roma population from several places in the wider area of Srebrenica and Skelani.  

These persecutions were committed by organized attacks on villages and settlements, by forcible separation of men and by shooting at, and killing a larger number of persons, underage victims included. Also, these persecutions were committed by beating and physically abusing the victims, destroying and setting on fire their property, taking away their personal documents and valuables, as well as by forcible persecution of women and children towards Bajina Bašta in the Republic of Serbia.      

In the course of the aforementioned attacks, at least forty (40) victims were killed, and at least a thousand (1000) Bosniak and Roma victims were persecuted from the territory of Skelani and its surroundings.

These accused persons are charged with the commission of the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity, as referred to in Article 172 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will prove the allegations from its Indictment by summonsing around one hundred (100) witnesses and expert witnesses, as well as by submitting extensive evidentiary material.

The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
