ACTION AGAINST INTERNATIONAL SMUGGLING OF WEAPONS AND NARCOTIC DRUGS CARRIED OUT UPON THE ORDER OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
30.11.2016. 15:45Upon the order of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an extensive action has been initiated to arrest and search a larger number of persons, mostly in cities and places in the northern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
These activities are being conducted against the persons who are suspected, as an organized criminal group, of the procurement, smuggling and sale of automatic weapons left from the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, all with the intention of smuggling the weapons towards the Republic of Austria, where these weapons would be used for the commission of criminal offenses.
Moreover, these suspects are charged with illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, as well as with smuggling of the narcotic drugs into Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Currently, the activities are being conducted against eleven suspects from the territories of Orašje, Bijeljina, Donji Žabar, Doboj and Modriča, and at the same time, searches of houses, facilities and vehicles used by these suspects are also being carried out.
These suspects are under investigation due to the commission of the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking in Arms and Military Equipment and Products of Dual Use, as referred to in Article 193 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, as referred to in Article 195 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After he has questioned the suspects, the Prosecutor in charge of this case will decide on further activities with respect to the aforementioned suspects.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
