INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN THE AREA OF SOKOLAC
06.02.2015. 15:15- Milenko Krsmanović aka Krša, born on 24 January 1957 in Bijele Vode, in the Municipality of Sokolac, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The accused is charged with acting in violation of the provisions of the Geneva Conventions relative to the protection of civilian persons in time of war, in July of 1992, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the armed conflict between the Army of Republika Srpska and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in his capacity of a member of the police of the Sokolac Public Security Station of the Republika Srpska Ministry of the Interior.
The accused is charged with coming armed and wearing a uniform, together with another member of the Republika Srpska Army, to the place in the area of the village of Pedište in the Municipality of Sokolac, where a Bosniak civilian from the Rogatica area was imprisoned while he tried, in fear of his life, to cross over to the territory controlled by the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Subsequently, the accused and the aforementioned member of the Republika Srpska Army robbed the civilian and then took him in a car to the Public Security Station in Sokolac, while inflicting physical injuries on him. All that time, the prisoner was beaten and hurt, and at one spot they took the victim out of the vehicle in order to kill him, but they eventually gave up that intention, all of which caused severe physical and mental injuries on this civilian.
Afterwards, the imprisoned civilian was handed over to police structures and he was transferred to the Rasadnik camp in Rogatica, where he and other Bosniaks were subjected to severe mental and physical injuries, all of which left consequences for his health.
The accused Krsmanović is charged with the commission of the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians, as referred to in Article 173 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
