The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina was awarded because of its intensive activities undertaken in 2014 which resulted in the increase in the VAT collection and in a more efficient prosecution of physical and legal persons who perpetrated criminal offenses related to tax evasion.

Namely, joint investigation teams were formed in the past year, consisting of the employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina, respectively, who worked together on documenting, prosecuting and sanctioning tax evasions and other tax-related criminal offenses.

Subsequent to these activities, a larger and more efficient collection of taxes and better tax discipline were recorded and VAT was collected in the amount higher than 6.3 billion BAM, even though the past year was marked by catastrophic floods, fall in production and adverse business climate.

Moreover, extensive tax evasion investigations were initiated in the past year, as well as investigations into multi-million tax debtors who owe multi-million amounts on account of unpaid VAT for a longer period of time.

These criminal offenses cause direct damage to the budget and to all the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Together with the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue its intensive fight against tax evasions in this year as well, as such activities contribute to our country’s economic strengthening and are beneficial for all our citizens in the future path to European integrations, in which tax discipline plays one of the key roles in the state’s economic stability and functionality.

*Note on the principle of presumption of innocence

This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
