PERSON SUSPECTED OF WAR CRIMES AGAINST CIVILIANS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY
12.11.2014. 15:18The suspect is under investigation by a Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH on grounded suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 173 of the CC BiH.
Mato Čondrić is suspected of having, as a member of the HVO /Croatian Defense Council/, committed the criminal offence by participating in the rape and sexual abuse of females incarcerated in the detention facility of the HVO at the FK /FC/ "Polet" stadium in Bosanski Brod in 1992.
The suspect will be handed over, within the legal deadline, to the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina where the Assigned Prosecutor will question Čondrić as a suspect and then decide whether to file a motion for remand in custody or not.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
