BY ORDER OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH A WAR CRIMES SUSPECT WAS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY IN ZENICA AREA
25.06.2014. 15:09The above-mentioned suspect is under investigation and is suspected of having acted contrary to the rules of the Geneva Convention on the protection of civilian persons in time of war during the conflict between the Army of BiH and HVO /Croatian Defense Council/ in his capacity of a member of the Sabotage Platoon of the 7th Muslim Brigade of the Army of BiH.
At the time of the commission of the crime the suspect was an older juvenile.
He is suspected of having arrived at the Community Center in Počulica - Vitez municipality, where the imprisoned Croat civilians were kept, on April 24, 1993 together with another member of the RBH Army. Having been armed with an automatic rifle the suspect has then, after the guard of the facility refused to give him the key, fired several bursts through the door killing three ethnic Croats and wounding nine other persons, among whom were several women who were detained in the facility, and then drove away from the scene.
The suspect is charged with the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 173 of the CC BiH.
After the arrest, the suspect will be handed over to the Assigned Prosecutor who will question him and then make a decision on a motion for remand in custody.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
