WITHIN THE SCOPE OF OPERATION CODENAMED ’’GOLD’’ ANOTHER CUSTOMS OFFICER OF ITA BIH WAS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY
09.06.2014. 15:25Persons covered by this investigation are suspected of having committed corruption offenses of accepting and receiving gifts and other forms of benefits as well as abuse of office or official authority in relation to customs procedures on import of goods through the Customs Office at Sarajevo Airport.
The suspect, who was arrested this morning, is employed in the unit responsible for detecting and preventing smuggling and customs abuses i.e. The Sector for the fight against smuggling and customs fraud of the Regional Centre Sarajevo, within the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH.
Once the Assigned Prosecutor questions the suspect he will, in accordance with the law, decide whether to file a motion for remand in custody or imposure of prohibiting measures.
The investigation in the case codenamed ’’Gold’’ continues in the direction of indicting a large number of persons for a number of corruption crimes committed in the past six months.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
