OFFICIALS OF THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OF BIH MET WITH MR. SERGE BRAMMERTZ, CHIEF PROSECUTOR OF THE ICTY'S OTP
09.04.2014. 15:02Deputy Head of the Special Department for War Crimes - Gordana Tadić, Head of Section II of the Special Department for War Crimes and Deputy Chief Prosecutor - Dragan Čorlija and Head of Section III of the Special Department for War Crimes - Ibro Bulić, met with the Chief Prosecutor of the ICTY's Office of the Prosecutor Serge Brammertz and his associates.
The theme of the meeting was joint cooperation in the prosecution of war crimes.
The central theme was reporting on the progress of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the pending category II cases, in which the investigation commenced at the end of 2003 in the ICTY's Office of the Prosecutor but the evidence collected was transferred to the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
Prosecutor Brammertz has also discussed the latest details of the investigation of war crimes committed in Prijedor municipality with the Assigned Prosecutor - Izet Odobašić and his associates as well as evidence collected and the remains recovered from the mass grave Tomašica.
The matter of cooperation between the prosecutor's offices in the region and the implementation of the recently signed protocols on cooperation with the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Croatia were also discussed at the meeting. It was concluded that there has been significant progress in the prosecution of war crimes, bearing in mind that a number of suspects in Category II cases are unavailable to judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina and can be located in the territory of these countries.
Representatives of the ICTY's Office of the Prosecutor were informed about the organizational and staff related changes in the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, especially with the increase in prosecutorial capacities in terms of war crimes prosecution which should result in increased efficiency.
The Officials of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH expressed their satisfaction with the successful cooperation and support that the ICTY's OTP has continuously provided for 10 years.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
