CHIEF PROSECUTOR MET WITH THE ROMANIAN AMBASSADOR TO BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
21.02.2014. 14:31The Chief Prosecutor informed the Ambassador about the performance and activities as well as plans for strengthening the capacities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in the future.
Chief Prosecutor pointed out that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH undertakes decisive actions in the process of establishing the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that it is ready to combat all forms of crime and to resist all pressures and political interference in its work.
The priorities in the work of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming period shall be war crimes cases, organized crime and corruption. The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH shall pay special attention to the fight against organized crime and corruption in the future given that the fight against corruption is in the focus of the European Union - stated the Chief Prosecutor Salihović.
Ambassador Teodorescu stated that the Government of Romania supports the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina, strengthening of the capacities and independence of the judiciary, which are important segments in the process of European integration of our country. He also added that it is important that the society is aware of the need to abide by the law and to support the rule of law.
The Ambassador emphasized that he supports the independence of the judiciary based on European standards as well as the independent process of appointment of judges and prosecutors.
It was agreed that the representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH would participate at a specialized training and education in Romania on combating corruption and confiscating ill-gotten property, given that the judiciary in Romania has recently made progress in achieving significant results in this segment.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
