EXHUMATION OF BODIES OF VICTIMS FROM THE PAST WAR CARRIED OUT IN BRČKO
17.01.2014. 15:59At the site of Meraja cemetery in the territory of Brčko, an exhumation was carried out and complete remains of two bodies were found.
The found mortal remains were transported to the Commemorative Center in Tuzla, where forensic, as well as criminal and technical analysis will be performed, the cause of death will be determined and bone samples will be taken for the DNA analysis in order to establish the victims’ identity.
The exhumation process was coordinated in the field by an Investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, whereas representatives of the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, an expert forensic pathologist and necessary workers and mechanization participated in the process of exhumation together with police officers of the Brčko Police Station.
The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, along with other law enforcement agencies and institutions involved in the process of tracing and identifying missing persons, continues its activities in the process of finding and exhuming mortal remains of war crimes victims in all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
