The Assigned Prosecutor took over the case concerning the exhumation of a mass grave site Tomašica last week and decided to engage another forensic team, in order to intensify the exhumation efforts and forensic processing of recovered bodies of the victims. The Assigned Prosecutor and the investigating team visited the mass grave site Tomašica, as well as the capacities of the "Krajina - Identification Project" (KIP) Šejkovača, at the location of which the forensic processing and identification of human remains found at the site of Tomašica is performed and has found that the works are handled as planned.

At the exhumation site the Prosecutor received detailed information on the progress achieved during the exhumation of the mortal remains of hundreds of victims of war crimes in the Prijedor area, as well as about the continuance of efforts in the future.

During their two-day stay in the area of Prijedor and Sanski Most, the Prosecutor and the investigating team have taken measures and actions to gather information about the locations of the crimes and the possible perpetrators of the crimes concerning the victims found in the mass grave Tomašica.

By order of the Chief Prosecutor the process of exhumation at Tomašica was not suspended and works were carried out despite the bellow zero temperatures.

An investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH is constantly present at the location of Tomašica, where the exhumation process is being carried out for about 4 months, to oversee the process and coordinate the work of all authorized officials participating in the exhumation process.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, together with other institutions involved in the process of tracing, exhuming and identifying the remains of war crimes victims throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, is investing maximum efforts to expedite these processes and has therefore requested that the machinery of the Armed Forces be involved in the exhumation process.
