CHIEF PROSECUTOR VISITS THE EXHUMATION SITES AT TOMAŠICA (PRIJEDOR) AND BUĆA POTOK (SARAJEVO)
12.11.2013. 15:12The Chief Prosecutor is to visit the site of landfill in Buća Potok tomorrow, as well as the four locations near the landfill that are being probed as there is information that the sites in question could contain the remains of Serb victims from the area of Sarajevo.
The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, together with all institutions involved in the exhumations, continues with intensive efforts to expedite the process of finding and identifying missing persons.
The Chief Prosecutor stressed the need to strengthen the capacities for work on war crimes as well as the need for capacity building in human and material resources for the processes of exhumation and identification of missing persons, which is in line with the conclusions of the structural dialogue on judicial reform.
Prosecutor Salihović pointed out that the need to strengthen the capacities of the Prosecutor’s Office also stems from to the decision in the Maktouf and Damjanović case and that it will be necessary to engage an additional 12 prosecutors in order to maintain the necessary dynamics in the prosecution of all cases.
This process is also very important because the families of the victims have been searching for their loved ones for two decades.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
