MORE THAN 260 MORTAL REMAINS OF VICTIMS EXHUMED SO FAR FROM THE MASS GRAVE AT THE TOMAŠICA SITE NEAR PRIJEDOR

24.10.2013. 17:02
At the site of Tomašica in Prijedor Municipality, intensive activities continue.

It is assumed that this primary mass grave contains bodies of victims of Bosniak and Croat ethnicity from Prijedor and its surroundings, killed in the summer of 1992.

In this mass grave, at the depth of ten (10) meters, complete and incomplete mortal remains of several hundred victims and some personal items of the victims were found.

Currently, the bodies at various depths of the pit are being dug out. The diggings are being carried out at three micro-locations with a few meters’ distance between them, and their depth is ten (10) meters.

Until today, approximately two hundred (200) complete bodies of victims were exhumed, as well as sixty-eight (68) incomplete bodies of victims.

In the meantime, two more micro-locations were found and the digging will commence very soon at these sites, and it is assumed that the total number of the found mortal remains of victims at this location will increase.

Remains of the found bodies will be transported to the Šejkovača Identification Center in Sanski Most, where they will remain until the completion of their forensic analysis and identification process.

The exhumation is attended by representatives of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), representatives of the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, representatives of the RS Ministry of the Interior, an expert forensic pathologist and an Investigator of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

The Investigator of the of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH is continuously present in the field coordinating the work of all the persons involved in the exhumation process.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH and other institutions involved in the process of exhumation are undertaking intensive activities aimed at securing this site and organizing the process of digging out of the victims and their further forensic analysis and identification.

The exhumation process will continue.
