19.09.2013. 15:24
By order of the Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, a major operation codenamed "Osoje" is taking place in many towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Mostar, Posušje Široki Brijeg, Čapljina, Čitluk, Sarajevo and Tuzla.

Apartments and suspects are being searched at 17 locations and those suspected to have, on daily basis throughout 2013, purchased, hidden and smuggled heroin, usually in amounts of several hundred grams, from BiH to the Republic of Croatia apprehended. In this way, the aforementioned organized criminal group has, during the period of 6 months - from March to September, smuggled several kilograms of heroin which was procured in BiH, mostly in the area of Sarajevo, Tuzla and Mostar, and then smuggled it further to the southern part of the Republic of Croatia.

The value of smuggled narcotics on the illegal drug market is estimated at several hundred thousands BAM.

Dozens of SIPA officers carried out this complex operation by order of the Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

The operation involved good, coordinated international cooperation with the police and judicial authorities of the Republic of Croatia, which is another good example of intergovernmental regional cooperation in the fight against the smuggling of hard drugs.

The suspects are charged with the criminal offense of Organized Crime (Article 250 of the CC BiH) in conjunction with the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs (Article 195 of the CC BiH) and will be handed over to the Assigned Prosecutor who will question them and then decide whether to seek remand in custody and for how many suspects.
