PERSON UNLAWFULLY PARDONED FROM SERVING SENTENCE TOOK PART IN ENDANGERING SAFETY AND SHOOTING IN MOSTAR. PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH CONTINUES INVESTIGATION TO ISSUE INDICTMENT IN BUDIMIR ET AL. CASE

18.07.2013. 15:07
After the endangering of safety and showdown involving firearms in Mostar, we would like to inform the public that one of the participants in this shooting and showdown was Damir Vašiček, the convicted person who had been unlawfully pardoned and at large, although he should have been serving his prison sentence.

This incident, which followed after the showdown and gunfire in Tuzla that had occurred less than a month ago, indicates that unlawfully pardoned persons or persons released from serving their sentence, participate in incidents and endanger the safety of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is something that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH was drawing attention to while investigating and undertaking investigative activities in Budimir et al. case.

Damir Vašiček had been repeatedly convicted in a very short period of time and he should have been serving his sentence; nevertheless, due to unlawful pardoning, conditional releases and reductions of sentence, he has been at large since the beginning of this month and he took part in the shooting incident and in endangering the safety of citizens of Mostar.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, SIPA and other law enforcement agencies involved in this case, continue their investigation in the case of Živko Budimir et al., for the purpose of issuing an Indictment

*Note on the principle of presumption of innocence

This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
