A PERSON SUSPECTED OF THE CRIMINAL OFFENSE OF WAR CRIMES AGAINST CIVILIANS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY
04.07.2013. 15:17Tolić is under investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and is suspected to have, as a member of 102 Odžak HVO Brigade, personally participated in psychological and physical abuse of Serb prisoners who had been captured in several prison camps located in Odžak and Bosanski Brod, during the period from May to October 1992.
He is suspected to have, as a commander of the guard, personally participated in the abuse of dozens of ethnic Serb victims on several occasions in several camps and detention facilities located in Odžak and Bosanski Brod. According to the evidence gathered, the victims were raped, abused and tortured in a very humiliating way in which the suspect personally participated. A number of prisoners have died as a result of torture and abuse.
The person deprived of liberty was handed over to the Assigned Prosecutor who will question the suspect and subsequently file a motion for remand in custody.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
