Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and other officials of the POBiH held a meeting with representatives of the UN today. The UN delegation was led by Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangur - Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for issues of sexual violence in armed conflicts.

Prosecution of war crimes related to rape and sexual abuse was discussed at the meeting.

Prosecutor and other representatives of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH informed the UN representatives about the work of the Prosecutor's Office, as well as about the war crimes cases prosecuted to date, including cases of war crimes of rape and sexual abuse.

Representatives of the BiH Prosecutor's Office informed Ms. Bangur and her colleagues about the work of the Investigation and Witness Support Department of the Prosecutor's Office, which was established to provide support to victims and witnesses.

The meeting participants also discussed the modalities for improving and expediting the processing of these cases as well as possibilities to support the victims of these crimes, during and after the trial.
