EXHUMATIONS OF VICTIMS FROM THE PAST WAR CARRIED OUT IN BRATUNAC AND SREBRENICA MUNICIPALITIES
15.05.2013. 15:03At the site of Pusumulići, in the territory of Srebrenica, several skeleton remains of one person were found, and at the site of Kamensko Brdo skeleton remains of at least six persons were found.
The found mortal remains were transported to the Commemorative Center in Tuzla, where forensic analysis will be carried out to establish the cause of death and bone samples will be taken to establish the victims’ identities by performing the DNA analysis.
An Investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH was coordinating the exhumation process in the field, whereas representatives of the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, an expert forensic pathologist, anthropologists of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) and police officers of Bratunac and Srebrenica Police Stations participated in the process of exhumation.
The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, along with other law enforcement agencies and institutions involved in the process of tracing and identifying the missing persons, continues its activities in the process of tracing and exhumation of mortal remains of war crimes victims in all parts of BiH.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
