CHIEF PROSECUTOR OF THE POBIH MET WITH THE HEAD OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE’S OFFICE IN BIH

Head of the Council of Europe’s Office in BiH, Mary Ann Hennessey visited the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and met with the Chief Prosecutor Goran Salihović.

The meeting was held in the attempt to find better solutions for the execution of decisions and improvement of cooperation between institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

 

One of the topics of the meeting related to problems regarding non-execution of the decisions of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, considering the fact the non-execution and failure to comply with these decisions may constitute a criminal offense.

 

During the today’s meeting, it was agreed that a meeting shall be held with representatives of the Constitutional Court of BiH in order to address these and similar issues.

 

The judicial aspects of the execution and the responsibilities regarding the practical implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in the ‘Sejdić-Finci "case were also discussed.

 

Head of the Council of Europe’s Office praised the appointment of the Chief Prosecutor by the HJPC BiH as one of the positive examples of the implementation of the "Sejdić-Finci" decision.

 

Chief Prosecutor informed Ms. Hennessey about the efforts of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, including activities carried out with the aim of ensuring an adequate working space for the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and strengthening the human resource capacities of the POBiH, The support of the Council of Europe and the European Commission to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH was also discussed.

 

The current activities of the Prosecutor’s Office, which are undertaken in the aim of strengthening the cooperation with law enforcement agencies in the region were also discussed, as well as priorities and activities in the fight against organized crime, economic crime and corruption and the efforts to accelerate the prosecution of war crimes.

 

The Council of Europe’s Official has expressed support to the work of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in the process of establishing the rule of law, which is an extremely important element in the process of European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has in particular supported the strengthening of cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Serbia and Croatia.
