CUSTODY MOTION FILED FOR A WAR CRIMES SUSPECT

29.10.2012. 15:06
Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes filed a motion to the Court of BiH to remand a person suspected of committing war crimes in Bihać and Cazin into custody.

Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH filed a motion for custody of the following suspect:

-        Safet KOVAČEVIĆ, AKA "Pape", born on September 18, 1973 in Vikići - Bihać municipality, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.

Police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency arrested the suspect KOVAČEVIĆ per order of the Prosecutor of the Regional Team 1 of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

KOVAČEVIĆ is under investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH within the scope of the "Atif DUDAKOVIĆ et al." case and is suspected to have committed war crimes against Serbs as a member of the 5th Corps of the Army of RBiH. He is suspected of committing the criminal offense of War Crimes against Prisoners of War under Article 175 of the CC BiH and the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 173 of the CC BiH.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH requested custody on grounds stipulated in Article 132, Paragraphs a) and b) of the CPC BiH.

Remand in custody was requested due to risk of flight since the suspect is a citizen of the Republic of Croatia and could leave and render himself unavailable to the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as due to risk that if released the suspect might interfere with the investigation and influence the witnesses or accomplices.

Custody motion was forwarded to the Court of BiH
