EXHUMATIONS OF BODIES OF VICTIMS FROM THE PAST WAR CARRIED OUT IN ODŽAK AND VIŠEGRAD MUNICIPALITIES

On 11 October 2012, exhumations in Odžak and Višegrad Municipalities were carried out under the supervision of an Investigator of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

At the site of Gornji Svilaj, Odžak Municipality, an exhumation was carried out and mortal remains of an incomplete body were found. At the site of Kamenica, Višegrad Municipality, an exhumation was carried out and skeletal remains of a human body were also found.

The skeletal remains found in Odžak will be transported to the common grave for keeping mortal remains in Odžak, where a forensic analysis and DNA sampling will be performed, whereas the skeletal remains found in Višegrad will be transported to the Commemorative Center in Tuzla, where samples for DNA analysis will be taken in order to establish the victims’ identity.

The DNA analysis of these bodies will be performed in the laboratory of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).

The exhumation in Odžak was attended by representatives of the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior of Posavina Canton, a forensic pathologist and an Investigator of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, whereas the exhumation in Višegrad was attended by representatives of the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior of Republika Srpska, a forensic pathologist and an Investigator of the BiH Prosecutor's Office.  

These exhumations were supervised by an Investigator of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, who acted in accordance with the instructions of the Prosecutor while coordinating the work of police, forensic experts and other authorized persons engaged in the exhumation process.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, along with other institutions involved in the process of tracing the missing persons in BiH, continues its activities in the process of conducting exhumations and tracing missing persons in all parts of BiH.
