EXHUMATION OF THE REMAINS OF CIVILIANS KILLED IN THE PAST WAR WAS CARRIED OUT IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF DOMALJEVAC – ŠAMAC AND MODRIČA
15.05.2012. 08:42In the late afternoon of May 10, 2012 an exhumation was completed at the locality of Domaljevac-Šamac resulting with the uncovery of one incomplete body.
On May 12, 2012 an exhumation was carried out at the Modriča municipality resulting with the uncovery of one body.
DNA samples were taken from these bodies for identification purposes aiming to establish the identity of the victims. DNA analysis shall be completed at the laboratory of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).
The remains recovered during the aforementioned exhumations shall be transferred to a joint repository in Odžak pending the forensic processing and identification.
The exhumation process was supervised by an investigator of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, who acted in accordance with the instructions of the Prosecutor while coordinating the work of police, forensic experts and other authorized persons engaged in the process of exhumations.
The exhumations were attended by representatives of the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, representatives of Posavina Canton MoI (in Domaljevac – Šamac) and RS MoI (in Modriča), a doctor working in the field of forensic medicine and an investigator of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, along with other institutions involved in the process of tracing the missing persons in BiH, continues its activities in the process of exhumations and tracing the missing in all parts of BiH.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
