INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST ŽELJKO RODIN (1965)
02.04.2012. 15:12Prosecutor of Team V of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH issued an indictment against Željko RODIN AKA "Dum" and "Rodin", born on October 21, 1965 in Mostar, residing in Split, with prior convictions, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.
The accused Željko RODIN is charged that during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the armed conflict between the HVO and the R BiH Army, while acting as an interrogator of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) of the HVO Brigade "Knez Domagoj" in the period from mid-July to the end of September 1993 in prison camps located in Čapljina municipality known as "Dretelj", "Gabela" and "Silos", he acted contrary to Article 3, Paragraph 1, Subparagraphs a) and c) of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of August 12, 1949.
The accused is charged with having personally, together with other persons and unidentified members of the HVO, participated in the interrogation and physical abuse, murder, intentional infliction of severe physical and mental pain and suffering to detained civilians, violations of physical integrity, outrages upon personal dignity, offensive and degrading treatment, and inhumane treatment and pillaging.
The accused is, inter alia, charged to have participated in the physical abuse and interrogation of a prisoner, which resulted in his death.
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
