Overview of important activities for the week from 02 March to 06 March 2026

REPRESENTATIVES OF BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE PARTICIPATE IN AN INTERNATIONAL EXERCISE

Representatives of police agencies, customs authorities and prosecutors’ offices from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia participated in the second joint international exercise titled ‘Improving the Capacity of Law Enforcement Agencies in the Field of Small Arms and Light Weapons’, implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). As part of the exercise, which was held in Belgrade, more than 40 participants worked on harmonizing communication and procedures in the course of the joint activities of the institutions of the two respective countries in cross-border crime cases, as well as on preventing crimes related to small arms smuggling and other related crimes, and finding modalities for better and more efficient communication and coordination in practice.

EXHUMARATION CARRIED OUT IN KUPRES

At the Gornji Malovan site in Kupres, an exhumation process was carried out, which was led by an investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes, on the orders of the prosecutor in charge of the case. During the exhumation, bone fragments were found, as well as pieces of clothing that were in the memorial ossuary-crypt. Samples were taken from the remains to determine the identity of the missing person through DNA analysis. The process of exhumation/clearing up of the terrain was attended by a forensic pathologist, representatives of the Missing Persons Institute (MPI) of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as police officers from the Ministry of the Interior of Canton 10, and police officers from the Kupres Police Station who secured the location.

PROHIBITING MEASURES PROPOSED FOR BIH ITA EMPLOYEE SUSPECTED OF CORRUPTION CRIME

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has submitted to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina a motion to order prohibiting measures for the suspect Sejfudin Mehić*, born in 1963 in Kakanj, employed as an inspector in the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ITA BiH). Given that the suspect, in the presence of his lawyer, admitted to committing the criminal offenses he is charged with, there were no grounds for detention, so prohibiting measures have been proposed, which include, among other things, a ban on performing duties in the ITA BIH and a ban on contacting witnesses in the case. The suspect is charged with a corruption crime and is accused of receiving a sum of money in order to favor the owner of a legal entity-company in the Visoko area in reducing tax obligations and contributions. He is suspected of the criminal offense of Accepting Gifts and Other Forms of Benefits under Article 217, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE REPRESENTATIVES PARTICIPATE IN ROUNDTABLE ON DIGITAL EVIDENCE AND COOPERATION IN CYBERCRIME AREA

Investigators and analysts from the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina have participated in a roundtable discussion on topics related to artificial intelligence, cooperation in the fight against cybercrime and the use of digital evidence in criminal proceedings, which was held in Sarajevo. The participants of the training, namely representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, have discussed with local and international experts the role of prosecutors and judges in collecting and using digital evidence, cross-border cooperation in legal procedures for collecting digital evidence, as well as the use of analytical tools supported by artificial intelligence for faster and easier analytical data processing. The roundtable has also discussed key international conventions and legal standards related to this area, in the light of the legal provisions of criminal proceedings in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The roundtable was organized by Sustainable Criminal Justice Solutions (SCJS), an implementing partner of the British Embassy in Sarajevo.

INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR ATTACK ON BIH BORDER POLICE OFFICIAL PERSONS

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has filed an indictment against Dario Marković*, born in 1978 in Dubrovnik, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Croatia. The accused is charged with first verbally and then physically attacking authorized police officers of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina who were carrying out document control at the exit from Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Vardište border crossing point, in the evening hours of 18 May last year, after which he was subdued and deprived of his liberty. The said accused is charged with attacking official persons in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina while they were carrying out their security duties, and with seriously threatening to attack the said official persons, whereby he committed the criminal offense of Attack against the Official Person on Tasks of Security, Detection and Apprehension of Perpetrators of Criminal Offences under Article 241b, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
