INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN THE AREA OF VLASENICA

Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against:
  • INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN THE AREA OF VLASENICA

- VIŠNJA AĆIMOVIĆ, aka ‘BEBA’, born in 1972 in Kladanj, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia.

This accused person is charged with acting in contravention of the rules of the international humanitarian law and in violation of the provisions of the Geneva Conventions, in early June of 1992, during the armed conflict between the Territorial Defence of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Army of Republika Srpska in the territory of the Municipality of Vlasenica.

Višnja Aćimović is charged with participating personally, consciously and willingly, together with another soldier and in the presence of several other soldiers of the Army of Republika Srpska, in the killing of thirty-seven (37) Bosniak men, at the site of Mračni Dol (Mračnica), which was in the immediate vicinity of the Sušica camp, in Vlasenica Municipality. Those Bosniak men had previously been transported there in a bus from the prison located behind the court building in Vlasenica. This accused person in charged with the execution of these victims, who were standing only several meters away from the bus, by shooting at them from her firearm.

The bodies of these victims were found and exhumed in 2000, at the same location where they had been executed.  

This accused person is charged with the commission of the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians, as referred to in Article 173, paragraph 1, item c) in conjunction with Article 29 and Article 180, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
