The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has submitted a motion to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to order custody for the suspect Joshua Thomas Lawless*, born in 2003 in Dublin, a citizen of Ireland. The custody measure was proposed for reasons prescribed in Article 132, Paragraph 1, Item a) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CPC BiH), specifically due to the risk of the suspect’s flight, since the suspect is a foreign national. He is charged with procuring a large quantity of Alzam tablets containing the alprazolam substance, which is classified as a psychotropic substance and whose distribution to citizens is prohibited. He attempted to send a quantity of at least 21,189 tablets to Spain and Ireland via mail, packaged inside other items. He was deprived of his liberty at the Sarajevo Airport while attempting to leave Bosnia and Herzegovina, at which time additional 50 pieces of the aforementioned tablets were found in his possession. He is suspected of committing the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs under Article 195 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CC BiH).
INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR ATTACKING OFFICIAL PERSON PERFORMING SECURITY DUTIES
The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an indictment against Vule Arsić*, born in 1977 in Rudo, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who has prior convictions and is currently remanded in custody. He is charged with seriously threatening and physically attacking an authorized official - a customs officer of the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ITA BiH), on 30 June of this year, at the Ustibar International Border Crossing. After making serious threats to the safety of the said officer, the accused also physically attacked him, inflicting minor bodily injuries. He is charged with threatening and physically attacking an official in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and there is a grounded suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of Attack against the Official Person on Tasks of Security, Detection and Apprehension of Perpetrators of Criminal Offences under Article 241b, Paragraph 2, in conjunction with Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CC BiH).
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
