EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE TASK FORCE COMBATING TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS AND ILLEGAL MIGRATIONS

At the invitation of the Acting Chief Prosecutor Gordana Tadić, who is the Head of the Task Force Combating Trafficking in Persons and Organized Illegal Immigration, an extraordinary meeting of the Task Force was held at the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH with the aim to discuss the current developments related to the situation with migrants residing in the BiH territory.

In addition to members of the Task Force, the meeting was attended by Heads and Officials of police and security agencies from the level of BiH, Entities and Brčko District of BiH, as well as representatives of international organizations.

Meeting participants discussed the strategic activities defined by BiH as well as the readiness of institutions to tackle the problems associated with the increased number of migrants in BiH, each within their competencies, and in joint coordination.

During the meeting, the need for solution concerning the protection of the state border was highlighted as priority as well as the need for improvement of the legislation regarding the treatment of international protection seekers, and also the need for urgent signing of readmission agreements with the countries of the region and the neighborhood.

Also discussed was the procedure concerning the treatment of migrants and the participation of institutions in activities related to their registration, security checks, humanitarian and health care, as well as other necessary activities, in accordance with international standards and domestic legislation.

Meeting participants also discussed the security situation in BiH with regards to both the safety of migrants and citizens of BiH.

The meeting was attended by representatives of relevant international institutions and organizations involved in resolving migration and asylum issues.
