PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH SHALL FILE A MOTION FOR REMAND IN CUSTODY OF THE FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN OPERATION ‘BENELUX’

16.03.2015. 11:32
Having questioned the suspects, who have for the most part remained silent, the Assigned Prosecutor shall file a motion for remand in custody of the following persons to the Court of BiH during the day:
  • PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH SHALL FILE A MOTION FOR REMAND IN CUSTODY OF THE FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN OPERATION ‘BENELUX’

1. Osman Abdel Salam and, born on January 1, 1962 in Beirut, residing in Sweden, a citizen of the Kingdom of Sweden

2. Amar Šljivo, born  on January 18, 1975 in Sarajevo, BiH citizen

3. Adis Ramić, born on January 10, 1979 in Visoko, BiH citizen.

4. Enver Džanko, born on June 19, 1973 in Sarajevo, BiH citizen.

Remand in custody for the suspects is to be requested due to the risk that, if released, the suspects might interfere with the investigation, suppress evidence and influence witnesses or accomplices, as well as that they might commit another criminal offense or complete the initiated.

Remand in custody for the suspect Osman Abdel Salam is also to be requested due to the risk of flight, as he is a Swedish citizen who could escape and render himself unavailable to the BiH judiciary.

The suspects in question are under investigation for the criminal offense of Terrorism pursuant to Article 201 (4) of the CC BiH. According to the evidence gathered they have, together and in concert with other persons from the territory of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, constructed and procured an explosive device of great destructive power with remote activation in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a certain amount of money and with the intent of carrying out a terrorist act on the territory of the Kingdom of Sweden.

The suspects were detected and arrested while trying to smuggle the explosive device outside of BiH, which was found and seized on that occasion.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH continues its intensive investigation in this case, which involved significant international cooperation that will continue, with the aim of identifying and prosecuting all persons involved in the commission of this criminal offense.
