INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST ONE PERSON FOR WAR CRIMES IN JOŠANICA NEAR FOČA

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an indictment against Amel Isić, born in 1972 in Višegrad, residing in Sweden, citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Kingdom of Sweden. 

INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST ONE PERSON FOR WAR CRIMES IN JOŠANICA NEAR FOČA

The accused is charged with having, during the war and armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a member of the "Vatra" /Fire/ battalion of the Višegrad Brigade of the Army of Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. The indictment states that the towards the end of 1992 the accused, together with other members of the AR BiH, participated in the attack on the village of Jošanica in the municipality of Foča, as well as the surrounding hamlets, inhabited mainly by the ethnic Serb civilians.


During the attack, 56 ethnic Serbs were killed, 10 persons were wounded, and their houses and auxiliary facilities were destroyed and set on fire.


The accused Isić is charged with having personally and directly participated in the killing of several victims at the attacked villages with other members of the AR BiH.


The accused is charged with the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 173, paragraph 1, subparagraphs a), c) and f) of the CC of BiH, Organising a Group of People and Instigating the Perpetration of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes under article 176, paragraph 2 of the CC of BiH and Violations of  the Laws or Customs of War under Article 179, paragraph 1 and 2, subparagraph b) of the CC of BiH.


The prosecution will prove the allegations by summoning about 160 witnesses, one expert witness and by attaching several hundred pieces of evidence.
