A legal officer from the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is present at the site in Povjestača, in Višegrad municipality, where he coordinates the activities of officers participating in the exhumation process, in accordance with an agreement reached with the prosecutor in charge of the case.
Almost complete mortal remains of an adult male were found at the said site. According to the collected information and preliminary findings, the remains belong to a Bosniak victim who disappeared in 1992.
The remains will be sent to the mortuary in Goražde where a DNA sample will be taken and further forensic processing will be conducted in order to determine the victim’s identity.
The exhumation process was attended by a forensic pathologist, representatives of the Missing Persons’ Institute (MPI) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), necessary workers and machinery, and the location was secured by members of the Višegrad Police Station of the Republika Srpska Ministry of the Interior.
