A prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH filed an indictment against the defendant Mustafa Unsal Umit, born in 1982 in Ankara, Republic of Türkyie, citizen of the Republic of Türkyie, remanded in custody.
The defendant is charged with having attempted to illegally transport migrants - citizens of the Republic of Türkyie across the state border, with the intention of acquiring unlawful property gain.
According to the indictment, the defendant, upon a prior agreement for an agreed monetary compensation, attempted to smuggle on 11 December 2023 three illegal migrants, citizens of the Republic of Türkyie, who did not possess appropriate documents or meet the conditions for legal crossing of the state border, from the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to the territory of the Republic of Croatia and the European Union.
The defendant was stopped together with the smuggled persons in the town of Ivanica near the border line with the Republic of Croatia by police officers of the Border Police of BiH.
The defendant is charged with having committed the criminal offence of human smuggling in violation of Article 189 (1) of the Criminal Code of BiH, in conjunction with Article 26 of the same Code.
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
