INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR TERRORISM AND PARTICIPATION IN FOREIGN BATTLEFIELDS

A Prosecutor from the Counter Terrorism section issued an indictment against:

 

- Adnan Ćatić, born in 1988 in Zenica, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is in custody.

The accused is charged with having planned and executed travel to the battlefield in Syria in 2013 and joining the terrorist group "Jabhat al-Nusra", which operates in Syria and has been declared a terrorist organization by the United Nations Security Council.

According to the evidence collected, the accused has left Bosnia and Herzegovina from Sarajevo airport on  1 July  2013 and went to the territory of the Republic of Turkey, from where he illegally crossed into the territory of Syria, where he joined the terrorist organization "Jabhat Al Nusra", which aims to destabilize and violently change the political and constitutional order in the territory of Syria, and whose members, through daily armed operations and attacks on the population, killings, illegal detentions, taking hostages and other terrorist acts and activities, intended to violently change the constitutional order and political regime.

According to the evidence collected, the accused Ćatić underwent military training in the aforementioned terrorist organization, worked as a sniper in this terrorist group and participated in battles against the legal army in Syria, in the area in which  he stayed for about 8 years until 2021. Afterwards he was staying in the Middle East and Turkey, where he was located a few months ago, On 17 November 2023 he was deprived of liberty by members of the Border Police of BiH pursuant to a notice by the State Investigation and Protection Agency - SIPA and has been in custody since.

The accused is charged with joining and becoming a member of a terrorist organization, thereby committing the criminal offense of Organizing a Terrorist Group under Article 202d (2) in conjunction with (1) of the Criminal Code of BiH, and in conjunction with the criminal offense of Terrorism under Article 201 of the Criminal Code of BiH.

The indictment was forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
