An investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is out in the field in Bijeljina, where he is coordinating the work of authorized officials participating in the exhumation process pursuant to the order of the prosecutor.
At the site of the Palikuša cemetery in Bijeljina, the remains of one person were exhumed and the material needed for DNA analysis and identification of the missing person was taken.
According to preliminary information, those are most likely the remains of a person of Bosniak ethnicity from the area of Brčko, who disappeared during the last war.The identity of the missing person will be precisely determined by identification through DNA analysis, which will be carried out in the coming period.
The work of authorized persons in the process of exhumation was coordinated by an investigator of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, and the work was performed by the representatives of the Institute for Missing Persons (IMP) of BiH, PCC Commemorative Center Tuzla, as well as police officers of the RS MoI, Bijeljina PD, who secured the location and provided criminal investigation and technical support.
