In view of the fact that the competences of the EU Commissioner are, among other things, focused on reform processes and on the strengthening of the rule of law in the countries of the Western Balkan region, the meeting discussed the activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in strengthening the rule of law and security, on the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Chief Prosecutor Kajganić has informed Commissioner Varhely about the activities carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fight against organized cross-border crime, corruption, illegal migrations, illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, terrorism and all other criminal offenses falling within the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are the focus of regional and international cooperation.
The meeting was also attended by Prosecutors working on cases involving international cooperation with European Union institutions, as well as Prosecutors working on cases related to Sky and Anom applications, in which cooperation with Europol structures and partner institutions from several EU countries has been achieved.
At the meeting, Chief Prosecutor Kajganić emphasized the importance of linking institutions and law enforcement agencies from Bosnia and Herzegovina with partner institutions from EU countries, such as Europol, Eurojust, and others, them being the key instruments for a successful fight against crime.
Commissioner Varhely and Ambassador Sattler have pointed out that EU structures have been providing support to the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and strengthening this institution’s capacities from the very beginning of building up and equipping its capacities, providing equipment and resources necessary for the successful work of the law enforcement institution, as well as that the rule of law and the safety of citizens are among the most important segments on the path of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards European integration.
