Acting on the order of the prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption, police officers of the Border Police have, in two cases, deprived of liberty a total of three suspects.

BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE AND BORDER POLICE CARRY OUT ACTIVITIES IN THE FIGHT AGAINST MIGRANT SMUGGLING

The suspects, who are foreign citizens, are under investigation and are charged with having organized, communicated with and smuggled illegal migrants to the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a long period.

In one case, the suspects used a vessel to perpetrate the criminal offense i.e. to smuggle several people across the river border into the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina across illegal border crossings.

By committing these criminal offenses, the perpetrators acquired unlawful financial benefits, and caused damages to Bosnia and Herzegovina by disrupting the security situation, enabling illegal migration, as well as increasing the number of persons illegally staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of leaving for EU countries.

Following the questioning of the suspects, the assigned prosecutor will make a decision on motions for custody, prohibitive measures, as well as further investigative activities in these cases.
