Justice for victims, sanctioning of war crimes, protection of the security and rights of all citizens, reconciliation and the rule of law in the region were the central topics of the meeting.
At the meeting, Chief Prosecutor of the IRMCT OTP Serge Brammertz expressed his support to the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH Gordana Tadić and her office, as well as to the Special Department for War Crimes, in their efforts to prosecute war crimes cases in the region as efficiently as possible and help Prosecutor’s Offices in the region to counter the emergence of impunity for war crimes 26 years after the end of the war in the former Yugoslavia.
The meeting was held within the Regional Conference of Prosecutors on War Crimes Prosecution, organised and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and it was attended by more than 50 officials from Prosecutor’s Offices and judicial institutions, as well as international organisations, representatives of the international community and the diplomatic corps.
