PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH NOT OFFICIALLY INFORMED ABOUT ARREST OF EDIN VRANJ ON REQUEST OF SERBIAN JUDICIARY

Following several media inquiries in connection with the arrest of Edin Vranj at the border crossing on his entry into the Republic of Serbia, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH provides the following information:

PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH NOT OFFICIALLY INFORMED ABOUT ARREST OF EDIN VRANJ ON REQUEST OF SERBIAN JUDICIARY

-            The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH was informed about the said arrest from media reports and did not receive any official notification or information from the relevant authorities of the Republic of Serbia.

-            The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has acted on the basis of a report submitted against several persons by the competent police authorities, which refers to allegations of war crimes committed against Serb victims in the ZOIL building in Goražde in 1993 and 1994.

In the mentioned case, an indictment was filed against several persons and the trial is in progress, while in relation to the reported Edin Vranj and several other persons, an Order Not to Conduct Investigation was issued on 26 December 2018 and no objection was filed against it in respect of the reported Edin Vranj.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH promptly forwarded a query to the War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Serbia in which it requested detailed information and it provided the latter with the Order Not to Conduct Investigation, which became final and binding in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
