INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR SMUGGLING OF GOODS AND ATTACK AGAINST OFFICIAL PERSON

A Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against the following persons:

- GORAN TRAILOVIĆ (1965) and MILOŠ POPOVIĆ (1995), both born in Požarevac, in the Republic of Serbia, residing in Bijeljina, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

These accused persons are charged with smuggling textile goods of a higher value, namely, clothing items of various world famous brands with declarations by manufacturers from several countries, which they smuggled from the territory of the Republic of Serbia to the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 17 October 2018, in Medjaši, in the municipality of Bijeljina.

According to the allegations in the Indictment, the aforementioned accused persons smuggled the said goods by bringing the goods by boat across the Drina River from the territory of the Republic of Serbia, where the accused reloaded the goods into a vehicle with a trailer and then they moved on towards their family house.

These accused persons then tried to hide the goods in the immediate vicinity of their family house, but they were detected by the police officers of the Bijeljina Border Police Unit. In an attempt to evade the police pursuit, these accused persons took the smuggled goods and fled, despite the order to stop; on several occasions, they tried to prevent the police officer who tried to stop them, and they inflicted physical injuries on him, after which they left the scene.

Subsequent assessment performed by the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina determined the value of the goods to be BAM 29,286.31.

The accused are charged with the criminal offence of Smuggling of Goods, referred to in Article 214, paragraph 1, and the criminal offence of Attack against Official Persons on Tasks of Security, Detection and Apprehension of Perpetrators of Criminal Offences, referred to in Article 241b, paragraph 2, in conjunction with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all in conjunction with Article 29 of the same Code.

The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
