The accused Milarem Berbić (1954) is charged with staying in Syria in the period from 2014 to 2019 and fighting in the structures of the so-called “ISIL”.
Prosecutor from the Section for Terrorism of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against the following person:
- Milarem Berbić, born in 1954 in Zenica, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is currently remanded in custody.
The accused is charged to have left Bosnia and Herzegovina in mid-2014 and gone to Turkey, wherefrom he illegally moved to Syria and joined foreign paramilitary formations which operated as part of the so-called “ISIL”, which was declared a terrorist organization by the UN Security Council.
During his stay in Syria, the accused was recorded in propaganda videos of the so-called “ISIL”.
The indictment alleges that, having spent several years in the structures of the so-called "ISIL", at the beginning of 2019, during the collapse of this terrorist organization, the accused was captured by Kurdish forces and deported to Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of 2019, where he is remanded in custody.
The accused is charged with the commission of the criminal offence of Unlawful Establishing and Joining Foreign Paramilitary or Parapolice Formations, as referred to in Article 162b of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
