Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH issued an indictment against Srđan Rankić, born in 1982 in Bijeljina, with previous convictions, citizen of BiH.
The accused is charged to have smuggled, on 21 September 2018, from the territory of Republic of Serbia across the region of the border area in Popovi village - Bijeljina municipality into Bosnia and Herzegovina, textile goods of higher value, garments of various world famous brands labeled with manufacturer trademarks from several countries. According to the indictment, the accused has performed the smuggling of the said goods in agreement with a person from the Republic of Serbia, so that the mentioned person brought the said goods in a boat across the Sava River from the territory of Serbia and then the accused took over the goods and reloaded it into his vehicle after heading further into BiH.
The police officers of Border Crossing Bijeljina Unit attempted to stop the accused on the local road, exercising control of the movement. In order to evade a police pursuit, the accused increased the speed of the vehicle but lost control where the side of the vehicle hit a tree, and then stopped in the yard of the house.
The aforementioned goods were seized after the search of the vehicle. It was found that the total value of the goods equals BAM15,709.96.
The Accused Rankić is charged with transferring goods across the customs line while evading customs control, and by doing so he committed the criminal offense of Smuggling of Goods referred to in Article 214 (1) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
