REMAND IN CUSTODY PROPOSED FOR ADEM ABAZ (1956) SUSPECTED OF ORGANIZED CRIME AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING IN ARMS AND MILITARY EQUIPMENT

Having questioned the suspect, the Assigned Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption filed a motion with the Court of BiH for remand in custody of the following suspect:

-        Adem Abaz, born in 1956 in Zenica, a citizen of BiH.

The suspect is under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and is suspected of being a part of an organized criminal group that purchased large quantities of weapons and ammunition in BiH with the aim of smuggling weapons to the territory of the Republic of Slovenia and further towards EU countries for sale in an illegal arms market.

Remand in custody for the suspect was proposed on grounds stipulated in Article 132 (1) (b) of the BiH CPC i.e. due to risk that the suspect could interfere with the investigation, conceal evidence and influence the witnesses or accomplices.

The BiH Prosecutor’s Office and the Federation Police Department are conducting, together with partner institutions in Slovenia, intense activities in detecting and prosecuting persons suspected of smuggling large quantities of automatic weapons from BiH to the territory of Slovenia with the aim of selling weapons in an illegal market and using it for the commission of criminal offenses in the EU area.
