INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN PRIJEDOR AREA

Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH issued an indictment against the following person:

INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN PRIJEDOR AREA

-        Mijodrag Vujičić aka Crnogorac born in 1960 in Lipljan, Republic of Serbia, a citizen of the Republic of Serbia.

The accused is charged with knowingly and significantly contributing to the joint criminal enterprise of the civil and military authorities of the municipality of Prijedor, during a widespread and systematic attack by the RS army and police directed against the Bosniak population of the village Zecovi in Prijedor municipality, thus committing the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172 of the CC BiH.

He is charged with having, during the period from 23 to 28 July 1992 while acting in his capacity as a member of the Rasavci company of the  43rd Prijedor Brigade commanded by the previously indicted Dušan Milunić aka Bizon, in concert with other members of the Reserve Police Rasavci commanded by Radomir Stojnić aka Grom, carried out persecution of Bosniak civilians villagers of Zecovi located in  Prijedor municipality on a discriminatory basis i.e. on ethnic, political and religious grounds, and with having, in that context, committed acts of murder, torture, forcible transfer and deportation.

More than 150 ethnic Bosniaks were killed in this persecution, including women, children and elderly, and the survivors were captured and unlawfully imprisoned in Omarska, Keraterm and Trnopolje imprisonment camps, where a number of Bosniak victims were killed and the rest subjected to forced persecution, torture, abuse and inhumane treatment.

The consequence of this war crime was that none of the at least 701 ethnic Bosniaks, as recorded during the 1991 census, remained in the village of Zecovi.

A part of the remains of the victims were found and identified in mass graves Tomašica, Jakarina Kosa, Hrastova glavica, Stari Kevljani, Redak, Pašinac and other smaller mass graves and individual graves. The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, together with the competent institutions and police agencies, is still intensively searching for the rest of the remains.

The accused is, inter alia, charged with the expulsion of civilians from the village of Zecovi to the Gradina site carried out on 23 July 1992, deportation and their unlawful taking away including seven members of a family that were taken in an unknown direction and afterwards killed.

The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
