Following the examination of the suspects, a Prosecutor from the Special Department for Organised Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption will send a motion for ordering custody against and imposing prohibition measures on a total of five suspects who were deprived of their liberty yesterday in the operation conducted upon an order of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
The detention measure will be moved for the reasons set forth in Article 132 (a) and (b) of the BiH Criminal Proceedings Code, i.e. because of the danger of flight and the danger that the suspects, if at large, might obstruct investigation, conceal evidence and influence witnesses or accomplices.
The grounds for custody set forth in paragraph (a) of the above-mentioned Article, namely the danger of flight, are particularly pronounced with the suspects who have dual citizenship, i.e. the citizenship of Macedonia in addition to that of BiH.
The operation ‘Truck’ was carried out on orders of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and is aimed at detecting and prosecuting persons suspected of tax evasion and money laundering with corrupt elements.
This is an investigation into financial crime related to the illegal reduction of tax levies on imports of large quantities of textiles through truck deliveries to BiH, during which the levies would be illegally reduced by way of corrupt activities, whereby the budget and all citizens of BiH sustained damage in large amounts.
