PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH ISSUED, DURING THE COURSE OF 3 YEARS, INDICTMENTS IN 580 CASES AGAINST 1,276 PERSONS

In his statement, the Minister of Security of BiH - Dragan Mektić, presented false claims thus deceiving the public with the aim of harming the institution of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

Although the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has, in the past three years (2014, 2015 and 2016) issued 580 indictments against 1276 persons for criminal offenses within its jurisdiction, including the most serious forms of crimes i.e. war crimes, organized crime, corruption, trafficking in persons, financial crimes, tax fraud, terrorism and other criminal offences Minister Mektić has, in his media appearance, stated that "the Prosecutor’s Office has issued 35 indictments in the past 3 years".

The public needs to know that, despite all the difficulties in 2016, 194 indictments were issued against 375 people, the achieved quota in the Prosecutor’s Office for the year 2016 was 138.97%, and the percentage of convictions was 85.5%.

The Acting Chief Prosecutor will soon present detailed information about the work of the institution at the session of the HJPC BiH.

The views expressed are harmful to the reputation of the institution of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, which is the leader of many activities in the fight against the worst forms of crimes, hence we forward this statement to HJPC BiH for information.

This public appearance of Minister Mektić is only one of many public appearances in which inaccurate information was given concerning the institution of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the Acting Chief Prosecutor Gordana Tadić who is groundlessly associated with other judicial function holders.

In his recent statement Minister Mektić has directly compromised the security of the Acting Chief Prosecutor, of which the management of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina was informed.

Given that  Minister Mektić has, in his media appearance, referred to specific "information on the state of the judiciary" which is to be considered by the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH emphasizes that this is a case of misleading information and that allegations presented are not accurate, as well as that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is open to all institutions of legislative, executive and judicial authority and can provide accurate and truthful information.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, despite all the pressures, continues to work intensively in the interest of the rule of law and all citizens of BiH.
