Prosecution of cases in which the accused are in neighboring countries, more effective transfer of war crimes cases to entity judicial institutions, assessment of the complexity of cases, as well as more efficient operation on all types of war crimes cases in accordance with the National War Crimes Strategy and the recommendations of Judge Joanna Korner, were central topics of the meeting.
Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH Gordana Tadić and the officials of the Special Department for War Crimes Izet Odobašić and Stanko Blagić met with the Permanent War Crimes Panel, consisting of the President of the Criminal Division of the Court - Judge Minka Kreho, Judge Željka Marenić and Judge Staniša Gluhajić.
Joint cooperation between the two institutions in accordance with the National War Crimes Strategy and recommendations from the report of the OSCE Mission and Judge Joanna Korner were discussed at the meeting.
The central topics of the meeting were related to the prosecution of cases in which the accused are not available to BiH judiciary and are located in the neighboring countries; to transfer of cases to the jurisdiction of the entity judicial institutions; to analyzing and monitoring the processing of submitted cases, as well as future training of judicial officials in the entities in this segment aiming to harmonize the practices of the entity and state judicial institutions in the prosecution of war crimes.
Representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the Court of BiH will actively participate and contribute to the upcoming amendments to the National War Crimes Strategy aiming to expedite the work on cases and ensure more effective implementation of the Rule of Law.
