ACTION AGAINST SMUGGLING OF NARCOTIC DRUGS AND EXPLOSIVES CARRIED OUT UPON THE ORDER OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

Two suspects have been deprived of liberty, and a larger quantity of explosives and narcotic drugs intended for the commission of criminal offenses have been seized.

Acting upon the order of a Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) have deprived of liberty two suspects in the area of Sarajevo.

Moreover, the facilities used by these suspects have been searched and a larger quantity of explosives (approximately 10 kilograms), intended for the sale on an illegal market for the commission of criminal offenses, has been found. The following items were found: a larger quantity of dangerous substance- mercury, four automatic rifles, slow-burning fuse for explosive, detonating caps and a larger quantity of ammunition.

Also, a larger quantity of narcotic drugs has been found during the search (namely, 9.5 kilograms of Marijuana narcotic drug, 3 kilograms of Speed narcotic drug and 300 grams of Heroin narcotic drug).

Such an action, as well as seizure of explosives and explosive substances, have certainly prevented the execution of a number of criminal offenses.

These suspects are under investigation due to the commission of the criminal offense of Organized Crime (Article 250 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina), and in conjunction with the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking in Arms and Military Equipment and Products of Dual Use (Article 193), as well as with the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs (Article 195).

According to the evidence collected, these suspects acted as part of an organized criminal group and, from 2014 until today, they participated in the commission of criminal offenses related to the international smuggling and sale of weapons, explosives and narcotic drugs.   

This seizure represents one of the largest seizures of explosives, dangerous substances and narcotic drugs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As part of this investigation, certain quantity of narcotic drugs, weapons and ammunition was also seized several months ago.

Persons thus deprived of liberty will be handed over to the Prosecutor in charge of this case, who will question them and subsequently decide on further activities in accordance with the law.
