ACTING CHIEF PROSECUTOR MET WITH ICTY/MICT CHIEF PROSECUTOR

Acting Chief Prosecutor - Gordana Tadić and officials of the Special Department for War Crimes met with the ICTY Chief Prosecutor - Serge Brammertz and his associates.

The focus of the meeting was on the current activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in prosecuting and completing war crimes cases.

Prosecutor Tadić emphasized that despite the large number of completed cases, there are a number of war crimes cases pending at the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in various stages; cases that are being handled in accordance with the National War Crimes Strategy.

Prosecutor Tadić also pointed out that there are difficulties in prosecution of certain cases because of difficulties in regional cooperation when it comes to suspects or accused persons who are located outside BiH, and that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH invests intensive efforts to cooperate with prosecutor’s offices in the region to ensure prosecution in such cases in which it is supported by Prosecutor Brammertz.

Continuation of intensive cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and Office of the Prosecutor of the ICTY/MICT was agreed at the meeting as a part of their joint mission to combat impunity for war crimes and to bring justice to victims.
